Winner for October 2016 – No correct answer

Vice Regal Lodge, Shimla

The Vice Regal Lodge is a humongous structure ringed by tall pines and was built in 1888 as the residence of Viceroy Lord Dufferin. It is situated on the Observatory Hill of Shimla and is also known as the 'Rashtrapati Niwas'. The building bears the Scottish flavor of architecture in its every nook and corner. The design of the building is one of the greatest contributions made by Henry Irvine. It was once the center of important decision making earlier like the historic Shimla conference of 1945 as well as the 1947 decision of partitioning India into Pakistan and Bangladesh. The building now serves as the center for the Indian Institute of Advanced Study (IIAS). The lawns and woodlands of the institute are also sources of attraction besides the English renaissance structures.
