Ellora Caves

Ellora also known as 'Elapura' was built by the Rashtrakuta Dynasty. Ellora is world famous as it is the largest single monolithic excavation and also houses the largest rock-hewn monastic-temple complexes in the world. Spread over a stretch of about 2 km, the caves are said to be excavated from a volcanic rock. The most attractive and the masterpiece of the creator is the Kailasha which is the largest and massive sculpture in the world. The visit to these caves is enjoyed maximum during monsoon, when every stream is filled with rainwater, and the entire environ is lush green. The shrines witness the presence of three great religions namely, Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.
