Mewar Festival 2016
09 – 10 April 2016

Udaipur is undoubtedly one of the famous, iconic and romantic destinations within India for the tourists. This mesmeric city is located along the periphery of Lake Pichola, and surrounded by the beautiful and amazing Aravalli hills. The city is a living example of the Mewar clan as the surroundings in all forms are quintessentially reminiscent to the lifestyle of the Mewar clan of Rajputs.

Mewar festival is celebrated each year by organizing innumerable fun filled activities which reflect age old traditions, culture and art of the Mewar region. A colorful event is organized every year to celebrate the living heritages of Mewar. People get indulged in this event and enjoy fun-filled opportunities offered in the festival; and learn local arts directly from the professional artists. This year the dates are 09th and 10th April'16.

A variety of seminars is also organized to deal with traditional forms of craft art with an aim towards combining it with the modern and contemporary styles in order to recreate new hybrid versions. It equally provides an opportunity to the craftspeople to get together and showcase their qualities and talent in order to strengthen the significant historic arts and crafts to make possible the new developments in the new era. The festival is organized by the Maharana of Mewar Charitable Foundation aiming towards continuing the process of heritage preservation.

Welcoming the season of spring, this festival is a visual feast with Rajasthani songs, dances, processions, devotional music and firework displays. A procession of colorfully attired women carrying the images of the Goddess Gauri make their way to lake Pichola where an unusual procession of boats on the lake offers a befitting finale to this splendid festival. This festival also coincides with the festival of Gangaur which has a unique charm about it. The festival of Gangaur is very significant for women of Rajasthan. Women dress up in their best clothes and participate in the festival. Participants dress up the statues of the God Isar (Lord Shiva) and Goddess Gangaur (Mata Parvati) before carrying out a ceremonial procession which goes through the different parts of the city before reaching Gangaur Ghat, at Pichola. Here the idols are taken in special boats to the center of the lake for immersion. The significance of Gangaur festival is to strengthen the bond between married couples by seeking blessings of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati as an ideal couple.

Once the religious part of the festival is over, it is time for cultural events where Rajasthani culture is portrayed through songs, dances and other performances. The festival culminates with an impressive fireworks display. All participants are in a joyful frame of mind, eager to enjoy every moment.

Another organized event is rangoli means a colorful presentation of the food and beverages through the HRH Group of Hotels. Professional chefs are there to recreate the cultural, traditional and colorful dishes of the food. Folk music (including classical vocal and instrumental music) and classical dance performances are also organized by the professionals throughout the whole three days of the festival where professional artists are getting invited from all over the India to perform their talents.

The Maharana Pratap Airport is near the Udaipur city which makes easy connectivity from major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, and Kolkata. Also, Udaipur offers a plethora of hotels to suit everyone's requirements.
