Nepal is a country which is considered the most blessed country with natural richness and ethereal beauty in the world. The divinity and charm felt here is unmatched. Truly the Himalayan kingdom bears a wide variety of lakes coupled with the exuberance of wide flora and fauna, thus making it the most sought after place by western tourist trotting this part of the globe.

Lakes in the Majestic Nepal are both splendid and holy and revered not only for their natural beauty but also for their spiritual significance. There are around two hundred lakes in Nepal of glacial and tectonic origin. Mountain lakes like Rara, Phoksundo and Phewa are majestic in extent and beauty. Nepal lakes are famous for their crystal clear water, scenic backgrounds and the adventure activities that they offer.

RARA LAKE
Rara, the deepest lake of Nepal is perched at an altitude of approx. 2,990 meters (9,810 ft) above sea level. Being sprawled over an area of 10.8 sq. km., this fresh water reservoir is roughly 5 kilometers in length and 3 kilometers in width. With a unique blend of flora and fauna this lake is best visiting time to the lake is September/October and April/May. It has been the popular rough route in western Nepal for trekkers. Being situated at a high altitude the way of culture and scenery is quite different from the rest part of Nepal. Snowcapped Himalayan peaks along with tall pine trees, spruce and juniper forests enhance the attraction of tourists who flock here every year.

PHEWA LAKE
Situated at an altitude of 742 meters (2,434 ft) above the sea level, the Phewa Lake encompasses an area of 5.23 sq. km. The Annapurna Range on the north is only about 28 km (linear distance) away from the lake, and the lake is famous for the reflection of mount Machhapuchhre and other mountain peaks of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges on its surface. The Taal Barahi Temple is situated on an island in the lake. Water sports at Phewa lake are the main attractions for tourists.

BEGNAS LAKE
Pokhra which is another major tourist attraction in Nepal is located on the western part of Nepal. Here tourists can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Begnas Lake, which encompasses the beautiful city Pokhara. This lake is well known for its contribution towards conserving a variety of birds which travel to Nepal during seasons as migratory species. To the north and northeast of this beautiful lake are the great Himalayan peaks. Also the terraced paddy field at the foothills of Himalayas is a great natural attraction for all those visiting Begnas Lake. Those who are adventurous can enjoy some water sport along with fresh water boating.

SHEY PHOKSUNDO LAKE
The renowned adventurous trek named Dolpo trek offers a mystically beautiful natural waterbody at its end named the Shey Phoksundo (Phoksundo Lake) Lake. This natural lake can be classified as an alpine fresh water lake which is located in the Shey Phoksundo National Park in Nepal. It covers roughly 1.91 sq. km. in area. A home to cheerful and welcoming faces of the local villagers, this lake is deeply inspired by Tibetan culture & language. This lake is nestled at a height of 3610 metres (11,849 ft).

TILICHO LAKE
One of the highest lakes in the world is situated at 4,919 metres and called the Tilicho Lake. This lake resides in the Manang district of Nepal and encompasses an area of 4.8 Sq. km areas. Being the end point of Annapurna circuit trek, Tilicho Lake majorly contributes to the ecology and conserves the Himalayan flora and fauna, in addition to other high altitude fresh water species. It is also well known for offering night camping, mountain cycling through the Thorong la pass. During the trek time trekkers cross the Kaligandagi River and it's breathtakingly deep gorge.

GOSAIKUNDA
Yet another mesmerizing lake that lies in the Russia district within the periphery of the Langtang National Park is the Gosaikunda Lake. Being located at an altitude of 4,380 m, it covers an area of 4.0 sq. km., the Gosai kunda Lake is an origin of Trishuli River, well known for its turbulence and most famous rafting. Every year on the occasion of Janai Purnima, thousands of pilgrims from Nepal and India visit the area, as Gosaikunda has been delineated as a Hindu religious site. It is believed to have originated when the Trishul of Lord Shiva dug into the land here thus forming a crater. It is also one of the popular trekking routes.
